As the last weekend of summer quickly inches itself toward Labor Day, my colleagues and I are “prepping” for the all-important first day of classes.
“Preps” is short for preparations, the number of different courses a teacher has to teach in a given term or semester.
“Prep” as in “prep work” is all syllabi, material and lesson plan preparation, which is an ongoing process for everyone in the profession. Teachers change the core materials of their courses to create the most effective experience for them and their students.
Preparation in the profession thus comes to serve as a source of professional development.
