Inspiration at Home

Today we celebrated my grandmother’s birthday.

She is in her eighties and francophone.

French is her second of three languages.

She learned French while growing up with “les bonnes soeurs” (nuns) in Lebanon.

Arabic is her first language.

She later learned English as she educated my mother and uncles in Khartoum, Sudan.

She has been one of my inspirations for learning other languages.

Joyeux anniversaire, Teta Giselle.
